Listing livestock for sale
To list livestock, click on the sell stock option, register, and submit your listing details. An Allied Farmers Livestock agent will contact you to discuss listing options, price and timeframe and (if required) arranges signing of an Authority to Sell. Allied Farmers agents manage all the technical listing requirements.

Prospective buyers contact the Allied Farmers Livestock agent. Once an agreed price is negotiated, the agent completes a sale contract with both parties. The livestock is delivered on the agreed date and payment is made.

Listing options

There are three listing options;
a) Tender* — buyers can make live bids on livestock listed for sale, giving a true market price
b) Sole Marketing Agency (SMA) — Only Allied Farmers can market your livestock for sale for a contracted period
c) Open Listing — your listing can be marketed by other companies as well as Allied Farmers

Your Allied Farmers livestock agent can discuss benefits of these different options.

*Only available for dairy

Livestock tendering (Dairy only)
Sellers set a reserve price and tender period with their Allied Farmers livestock agent.

MyLiveStock members place live bids as a ‘price per head’ on livestock and receive email and text updates if they’re outbid. There is no limit on the number of people who may tender for livestock.

On the tender closing date, the Allied Farmers livestock agent will discuss the bids you’ve received. Subject to you accepting the highest (or any) bid, the agent completes the sale contract details with the successful bidder. If your reserve has not been met, your agent will discuss your options — negotiating with the highest bidders, or re-listing. If a bid is accepted the bidder is legally bound to complete the sale.

On the agreed date, the livestock is delivered and inspected by the buyer. If it meets the listing details, payment is made.

Tenders encourage the best solution for both parties. Sellers receive and buyers pay market price for their livestock. Buyers have control over how much they’re prepared to pay for good livestock. Good-quality livestock is hard to find, so tendering encourages buyers to pay for quality.

Managing the sale process
For livestock Tender listings, an Allied Farmers livestock agent meets with the seller and loads all information on to MyLiveStock. The agent is then available to answer questions throughout the tender process. At the successful conclusion of a tender, the agent completes the contract details with both parties.

In SMA or Open Listings, the agent is involved in negotiating price and completing the contract details once the sale is concluded.

Sellers are paid once the buyer has received the livestock and is satisfied that the animals meet their listing details.

The seller meets all transport costs associated with stock delivery.

Private sale
If you list livestock under Tender or SMA, you can’t sell the livestock on your own behalf during the agreed listing period. If you attract a buyer for your livestock during this period, they must either bid for the livestock on MyLiveStock (if Tender) or contact the Allied Farmers livestock agent to register interest (if SMA).

If your stock is an Open Listing, you’re able to sell privately.

Buying Livestock or Animal Feed

Buyer enquiries (Livestock)
Registered buyers should contact the listing livestock agent or email info@mylivestock.co.nz to discuss details of listed stock, or to request an inspection.

Bidding on tender listings (only available for Dairy stock)
Only members can bid on MyLiveStock. Members agree to terms and conditions of registration, which include their legal commitment to purchase if the seller accepts a bid and they’re the successful bidder at the conclusion of a livestock tender.

In the ‘place bid’ area, enter the dollar amount per head you wish to bid. A confirmation page will appear showing the amount of your bid and requesting you click ‘confirm bid’. Once you’ve ‘confirmed’, your bid will be available for other members to see.

The current bid, bid history and tender closing date are highlighted. Tender bidders can choose to receive email or text updates if they’re outbid.

If the reserve price has been met at the tender closing date, and the seller has accepted a bid, the successful bidder is legally obliged to complete the transaction at that price. But any stock you buy is available for inspection, to ensure it meets the listed details.

The seller may accept or reject the highest (or any) bid at the tender conclusion.

You can choose to receive email and text updates if you’re outbid.
